Welcome to Hills Farm Stables Riding Holidays

Luxury Riding Holidays At Hills Farm Stables, Laugharne, Telephone 01994 427375

Hills Farm Stables offer a unique opportunity for experienced riders to ride quality horses through picturesque open countryside and stay in our comfortable, spacious farmhouse on the edge of the historic township of Laugharne .

We accommodate up to a maximum of four guests at any time who will appreciate the opportunity to ride responsive, willing horses.

Non riders are also welcome and there are many opportunities for physical activities in the vicinity such as golf, clay pigeon shooting, walking or sightseeing.

About Us
We've been running Hills Farm Stables for 20 years, and gauge our success on the number of people who return year after year to enjoy their holiday.

We specialise in eventing and have had some success over the last few years with horses we have produced ourselves. However, we try to make holidays fun and interesting and are open to suggestions, bearing in mind that your holidays must be enjoyable as possible.

Local Area

The ancient town of Laugharne is on the Taf estuary only four miles from Pendine Sands where Donald Campbell attempted to break the world land speed record in Bluebird and Amy Johnson took off for her solo flight to America . Laugharne has cultural links with the poet Dylan Thomas, the artist Augustus John, and the novelist Richard Hughes and more recently the actor and entrepreneur Neil Morrisey. Historically it is still administered on the ancient feudal system.

Riding

We are fortunate that out stables are situated close to open country, accessible by quiet roads and tracks. Hugden is one of the original great fields of Laugharne, still divided into strips and administered on the old feudal system. There are rights of way across the Hugden and it offers panoramic views of the coast to one side and the Preseli Mountains to the other.

We take our guests for whole day hacks to various picturesque locations, including Canaston Woods, Brechfa Forest, Pembrey, and Llawahaden. Pendine beach is only four miles from our stables and everyone can enjoy a good stretch along part of the seven miles of sand with a splash through the surf.

We have an outdoor ménage and offer lessons in both flatwork and jumping for those who wish to improve their riding skills.

Some of Our Horses

Harry (Golden Grove)
Harry is a 16.2 hh chestnut gelding who is currently competing in an affiliated eventing at novice level. He is versatile and a real gentleman.

Folly (Finely Folliander)
Folly is a fine 16hh bay thoroughbred mare who qualified for the National Riding Club Championships in both show jumping and dressage in 2004. She is very kind and willing with a burst of speed.

Hideaway
Hideaway is a 16 hh dark bay mare. She is a weight carrier, and is very laid back and kind. She is safe accurate, but rather slow at cross county, so is only occasionally placed in hunter trials.

Pants (Springside Smarty Pants)
Pants is a 15 hh chestnut Arab cross cob gelding who is just starting his dressage career.

Botham
Botham is a 15 hh bay registered cob with a bouncy stride and great attitude. He enjoys hunting and has competed at local hunter trials.

Allsorts
Allsorts is a 13.3 hh, homebred skewbald mare and is an ideal mount for a teenager or small adult.

There are several other horses and guests can ride different horses during their stay. However guests are expected to be responsible for the grooming and general care of the horses while they ride.

Accommodation

Originally built in 1824 our farmhouse has been extensively modernised whilst still retaining a wealth of original features. Guests can choose between two double and two single bedrooms with no supplement for single rooms. There is a large garden sloping down to the River Corran and a kitchen garden for producing fresh fruit and vegetables in season.

There are two drawing rooms; one small and cosy with a wood burning stove, TV and video, the other is much larger, without TV, with a wood burning stove and view over the garden.

We have a small breakfast room adjacent to the kitchen with the main dinning room being more spacious and conducive to relaxed family meals.

  “Jackie & Melissa,
What was supposed to be a birthday surprise for Mandy, turned out to be a wonderful and fantastically enjoyable FIRST time experience for myself.
Many thanks for making this weekend one to remember and I feel sure to see you both again very soon.”

“My riding holiday at Hills Farm Stables surpassed my already ready high expectations. I rode lovely horses and through stunning scenery; rides were without fail exhilarating yet safe. The horses were well-cared for and happy, and so was I. The accommodation and home-cooking were wonderful, but to seal the hospitality of all connected to the farm. I plan to return in the hopes that this singular experience can be duplicated! So many thanks…”
